| Home
to the endangered majestic Bearded Vulture (Lammergeier),
Giant’s Castle Resort in the historic Giant's Castle
Game Reserve, lies in the Central Berg region of the uKhahlamba
Drakensberg Park, a World Heritage Site. |
 |
| The
word ‘Lammergeier’ originates from German,
which means "lamb-vulture". This raptor will
often drop bones from a great height in order to crack
them open and gain access to the bone marrow inside -
hence its old name of Ossifrage (or Bone Crusher). |
 |
| A
place of tranquillity and beauty, Giant's Castle takes
its name from the silhouette of the peaks and escarpment
that resemble the profile of a sleeping giant. |
 |
Giant's
Castle offers the privilege of entering the world of the
San as well as the opportunity to study a varied and exciting
range of habitats.
The San Art Museum ("Main Cave") is a gentle
30 minute walk from the main camp while the grasslands,
marshy areas (vleis), indigenous forests and many other
energy flow ecosystems are easily accessible. |
 |
| There
is a variety of luxury accommodation to suit all. All
units are serviced daily and are equipped with satellite
TV. World class service is always standard at this resort. |
 |
Izimbali
restaurant and bar provides guests with the option of
fully catered meals in its warm and relaxed atmosphere.
There is also a "Vulture Restaurant" where one
may watch the Bearded Vulture as well as other raptors.
For activities, there are the prehistoric San rock art
sites, trout fishing, bird watching, game viewing, swimming,
ice climbing during winter, mountain biking, hiking and
camping. |
